Sponsored by BSA Troop 95, the annual Eric T. Duckworth Memorial Holiday Cookie Drive is Saturday, December 10th, from 9am until noon at the church. The cookie drive is in memory of Staff Sgt. Eric T. Duckworth, 26, of Seabrook, who died in Iraq in 2007. His military honors include the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. We will be sorting and packing boxes that morning. Scouts can earn service hours for this event. And YOU can help too.
This year, we would like to send at least 130 boxes of cookies and other goodies again to our soldiers overseas. That means we need approximately 625 DOZEN cookies. Bake your favorite holiday cookies, and bring them all to the church on Saturday. It would be very helpful, if you could separate them out into sharable, serving size portions by putting 5-6 cookies per small Ziploc bag.
If you do not have a favorite recipe, how about picking up a couple of "Slice and bake" or pre-made cookies from your local grocery store. They have sugar cookies, gingerbread, chocolate chip, peanut butter, etc. ready to go. Get the whole family involved.
If you are not a baker or just do not have the time, we still need you. Bring us your newspapers or other packing material, sponsor a box ($donation); or pick up some Gum, hard candy, socks, fruit cups, individual trail mix or peanuts.
You can drop off goodies at the church (ahead of Saturday, if you need to.) You can ship them to us. Or you can mail in/drop off a donation to Troop 95, if cooking is not your thing.
We also like to include letter(s), have the youth draw pictures, or make Christmas cards to include in the boxes. Tell the soldiers thank you for their service and we are praying for their safety. Or a quick note about life in our area, etc. Make sure to only
sign with first names.
IF you know of a family member, relative, or friend in the military overseas, send us their names, too. (Send an email to email@example.com) WE will send them a care package.
We hope to get them all delivered before the holidays.
Troop 95 thanks you.
